Media buying has been a hot topic lately. It seems like everyone wants to get into media buys, even if they don't know what that really means. I want to explain a little about media buying and show you how you can use PPV to get into some basic media buying.
Media buying is not new. In fact, this is one of the older online marketing methods. Media buying is essentially buying banner ad space on websites. There is nothing magical about media buying…it's probably not going to make you rich, it's not the answer to your Google account getting banned, and it's not the latest and greatest marketing technique. Media buying on a large scale is fairly difficult and requires a lot of cash upfront.
The easiest and best way to do media buying for most affiliates is going to be simply finding sites you want to advertise on and sending them an email. If you get really good at this, you can find sites that currently don't even have advertising and get some really dirt cheap clicks. So how do you find these sites? This is where PPV comes in!
1. Take one of your current PPV campaigns, and find a URL target that is generating conversions.
2. Email the site owner directly and negotiate to buy some advertising on their site.
3. Rinse and repeat.
Easy right? See, some things don't need to be that complicated to make work. It just requires some effort and creativity on your part.
Some things are so simple it’s ridiculous. Good stuff.
“it’s probably not going to make you rich, it’s not the answer to your Google account getting banned,”
lol at this misinformation
I’ve got to agree with Cash37, the statement of “its not going to make you rich or is an answer to your Google account getting banned” is bad info.
The fact is that media buying IS simple. Its not rocket science, however it required common knowledge. It DOES take money, but no mass amount as stated. Many media buyers pay on a CPM basis, which the lowest I’ve ever seen was $0.20 cents — if people think that is TOO much, then they shouldn’t be marketing, yet.
I look at it like this, media buying is pretty simple, assuming you have things in order. It can make you a good amount of money, but don’t jump into it WITHOUT knowing what your doing.
Just my .02 cents.
@ Cash 37 – Maybe I should have been more specific. I meant there are a lot of people jumping into media buys thinking its the way to get rich with affiliate marketing. Based on all the affiliates I talk to and what I have seen out there most people aren’t going to become rich doing media buys, PPC, or any other type of internet marketing for that matter. I just mean that it’s not some magic marketing method. Just like anything else, it requires a lot of work.
@ Dustin – yeah ‘media buying’ like finding sites to buy a banner on certainly doesn’t take a lot of upfront cash. I’m referring more to people talking about bringing in millions of dollars a month through media buys. That DOES require a lot of cash unless you know some secret I don’t 🙂
“There is nothing magical about media buying…it’s probably not going to make you rich, it’s not the answer to your Google account getting banned, and it’s not the latest and greatest marketing technique.”
Finally, somebody speaks a little sense. Yes, you can get rich doing media buys – or AdWords, or SEO, or PPV, or social media, or offline marketing – but I’m glad to actually see someone telling it like it is. For 99% of affiliates, just saying, “I’m going to be a media buyer” is not the answer – it’s an excellent and potentially profitable strategy, but it’s not like you just go out and buy a few ads and then watch the money pile up.
It’s also not some magic bullet that will fix your banned AdWords account, either. If you’re doing shady things, you’re going to encounter a lot of resistance with media buys, too. I’ve purchased hundreds of thousands of dollars in ads for employers, clients, and myself, and I’ve had webmasters reject ads for all kinds of reasons (including, “Your banner doesn’t blend in with my site” or “I don’t think I would personally use your product”)
The phrasing may not have been all that precise, but I get the point here, and I agree with it.
@David – Agree’d, it won’t make you millions instantly as it takes time and testing to be able to scale a good campaign. Its no instant “throw a campaign up and make millions” scenario.
I have no secret, but if I did, I’d keep it tightly guarded. < No pun intended 😉
You all missed a BIG POINT !
Many offers will not be profitable with a .20 impression cost. That is 20x what I pay for CPV and 400x what I pay for RON
You have to have a very profitable campaign for this to work.

I like it here. You people talk a lot of sense. Media buying is just another form of buying traffic.
In the old days people would buy advertising space in magazines and newspapers.
Place an ad before the wrong audience and it was a quick way to lose a lot of money fast.
Same rules still apply online.
@DK – Not sure what you were talking about. “You need a profitable campaign for this to work.” Any campaign can be profitable if you target the right audience.
Reiterate your comment if you would please so everybody (or maybe just me) could understand it.
The PPV Affiliate Summit will be a smashing hit. The information in this particular niche is overwhelming and refreshing. I definitely know when you target your urls from websites or keywords that are converting. You are on the right track to making money at will. I would love to promote the event if it is available. Please let me know. Eric Watkins http://eznlegal.blogspot.com
