PPV Campaign

A Failed PPV Campaign

Yes I have them…lot’s of them. Anyone who sounds like they are throwing up winning campaign after winning campaign is full of it.

The offer I ran was a popular IQ quiz offer. Those are hot right? People are killing it right?

I started off direct linking and came up with a few angles to target:

  • Quiz sites
  • Cheap targets with a young demographic
  • Music sites

For each idea I scraped together a hundred or so targets (URL’s and keywords).

I ran this offer on Lead Impact, Media Traffic, Traffic Vance, and Adon. After about $200 spent total and 1 conversion I knew I had to change something.

Next, I decided to build a simple landing page. I picked a couple more angles to target and removed the targets that I had spent a conversion or two on. I let this run for about $100 more in traffic with zero conversions and finally pulled the plug.

So what did I do wrong? IMHO nothing really…I believe it was the offer. Why? Because even on campaigns where I have the worst targets, or a really bad LP, if the offer has some potential I will at least get a few conversions.

I know a lot of people say to push IQ quizzes on PPV traffic but I have seen a lot of people in the PPV Playbook forum as well as other affiliates I know try and bomb with those offers. If you can get it to work more power to you but I’ll stick with the types of offers I know work well.

Were you rotating a stack of IQ offers or just using one? Also, did the offer come from an AM recommendation or was there another way you picked it out?

So I have been having a similar problem.

I have been trying to promote PS3 giveaway which includes God of War 3 as a bonus. A 2 page submit – zip then address. I have spent about $200 and got 4 conversions.

I tried direct linking and after that failed set up a PHP redirect page with a retargeting pixel. Still nothing.

IMHO I did it all right. I even targeted the WWE crowd of gamers. C’mon.

I want to grab those pimple faced kids, tell ‘em to stop looking at Kelly Kelly, get a real girlfriend, and SUBMIT YOUR ZIP CODE.

    But I digress. I really didn’t think PS3 w/ GoW3 would not convert.

    Whew – I’m spent!

    Cheers

Yes try it yourself for sure!

@ Matt – I was running just one offer that was an AM recommendation. Usually my worst converting campaigns are ones that my AM’s recommend :\

That’s odd you couldn’t get it to work. I’ve promoted IQ quiz offers on CPV platforms for the past 2 years with success.

I guess that’s just affiliate marketing for ya…

Man that stinks. I agree though. The little bit I’ve done has shown someday to convert at a +200% ROI and other days a -50% ROI. Still so random for me!

It seems the more targeted I get the less leads I have lol. Isn’t that always the problem.

I did ok with IQ quizzes for a time on TV. But yeah, my conversions have died recently for that campaign.
